Tonsillolith(Tonsil stone)- Small yellow mass of rice grain size coming out of the mouth.

Definition

It refers to a small yellow grain of rice grain size that is caused by food waste and bacteria gathering in small holes in the tonsil or tonsil. The name says it is absent, but it is not as hard as most stones. If the condition of teeth and tongue is clean, it smells bad, and when brushing your teeth and exacerbating nausea, you may be suspicious if rice grains pop out.

Cause

The most common cause is chronic tonsillitis. Frequent tonsillitis can cause small holes in the tonsils called tonsils to grow. If food waste gets stuck in this enlarged hole, it becomes an environment where bacteria can reproduce well, and when bacteria form together and form small grains, it becomes a tonsil stone. People who have poor oral hygiene or have a nasal concussion over the back of the throat due to rhinitis or sinusitis are prone to tonsil stones because they are conditions prone to bacteria growth in the tonsils.

Symptom

You can stay without symptoms, but it usually smells like mouth, and after brushing your teeth, yellow grains like rice grains sometimes come out. When you have a sore throat or swallowing, you may feel like you have something stuck on your neck, tickle, or have a sore ear.

Diagnosis / Test

An oral examination at the otorhinolaryngology department reveals yellow granules (tonsilular stones) on the tonsils on both sides of the uvula. The findings of tonsillitis may be accompanied. Oral and pharyngeal examinations are performed, and a pharyngeal endoscopy is performed.

Cure

Tonsil stones can also come out on their own and can be removed by aspiration, etc., and may recur after some time. Laser or nitric acid may be used to treat a hole in the tonsil with the same drug, but tonsillectomy to remove the tonsil itself is the most obvious method. It is not necessary to perform tonsillectomy for all tonsil stones, and the effect of surgery and risk of complications should be considered. It is recommended to perform tonsillectomy if you have had tonsillitis more than 5 to 6 times or more than 3 times a year. And if problems such as pain, bad breath, foreign body sensation or pain persist, surgical removal may be necessary.

Progress / Complication

Mouth odor and foreign body sensation are the main symptoms, and leaving it alone does not cause serious problems unlike stones in other body parts.

Prevention method

When tonsillitis occurs, it is important to treat it well and keep it clean so that bacteria do not spread well in the mouth. Drink water often, and brush your teeth well after meals. If tonsil stones are well formed, rinsing the mouth with gargle solution with antibacterial properties after brushing can reduce the recurrence of tonsil stones.

Diet / Life Guide

Oral hygiene is usually cleaned by brushing and gargle.
